The Yamaha XT 125R is a single cylinder enduro/adventure bike produced by Yamaha motor company since the 2003 model year. It shares its modest power plant with the YBR 125, the DT 125 RE and its supermotard brother, the Yamaha XT 125X. While parts such as the transmission and chassis are produced in Japan, and the engine in Brazil, the motorbike itself is assembled in Bologna, Italy for the European market by the Italian bike company Malaguti.
Considered a "classic", the XT 125R has all the ingredients of the typical Yamaha XT family, being a true dual-purpose machine. The 21-inch front wheel and the 18-inch rear with the typical enduro-style tyres make it fit for both on- and off-road use. Seat height and ground clearance are higher compared to the Supermotard version and the machine features the typical dual-purpose handling characteristics, which makes it suitable for a wide range of duties, from crossing rough city roads to small country lanes or paths.
The bike is considered very suitable as a learner bike due to its light weight and high torque composition, with user-friendly brakes and easy handling, particularly as an alternative for taller learners (along with the Honda XL125 Varadero). It should be noted that these characteristics naturally make the XT 125R fun for any level of rider.
The XT range debuted in 1976 with the XT 500 single 4-stroke "torque hammer". Later, other models followed spreading from XT 125 to the latest XT 660. Both the XT and DT ranges represent the typical Yamaha model development consistency, with model refinements over a long period of time, resulting in a generally dependable and "bullet-proof" quality.
As of the 2008 model year, Yamaha is still producing and marketing the XT 125R.
